RECOMMENDED USES

Timbakote Timber Pro Rustic is an ideal finish for all CHH Shadowclad Prime Ply sheets where a long lasting rustic stain look is required.

SURFACE PREPARATION

TKote-Rustic-Coatings-70.jpg

Surface should be clean and dry, stains and any stencil marks to be removed. Nail holes and minor defects to be filled with a suitable timber filler, sanded and recoated with Timbakote Rustic Basecoat. All cut edges need to be sealed prior to installation.

If cladding has been left exposed for longer then 30 days, wash down prior to installation with water and a soft broom to remove any contamination. Allow to dry.
Cladding must be coated within 90 days after installation.
LOSP treated ply should be allowed days for solvent treatments to evaporate in the end use situation prior to coating. In periods of cold or wet weather or where ventilation is poor, a longer period maybe required. If in doubt it is recommended to coat a small area and monitor for adhesion and drying.

APPLICATION

Stir product well before and during use with a flat stirrer.
Thinning is not generally recommended, as it can be detrimental to the coating performance. The addition of 50mils of water maybe required in hot weather or when coating highly absorbent surfaces.

Apply 1 coat of Timbakote Rustic Basecoat with a good quality paintbrush, applicator pad, roller or spray. If spraying, lay off with an applicator pad or brush to provide an even appearance. Do not over spread. Achieving the correct coating film thickness is important to the life of the coating.

Apply 2 coats of Timbakote Timber Pro in your chosen colour once the basecoat is dry. Coat one sheet at a time, lay off in long even strokes along the sheets length working to natural breaks. Always keep a wet edge to avoid lap marking. Highly exposed areas will require an additional coat for extra protection due to extreme weathering. Apply the final coat of Timbakote Timber Pro after the cladding has been fixed to the wall. Pay particular attention to the coating of the grooves.

Use colours with a light reflectance value of 40% or more to meet the 50-year durability requirement of the NZBC.

Precoating
If precoating Shadowclad prior to installation do not allow the sheets to be stacked together without plastic film between the layers.

COVERAGE

6 – 12 square metres per litre.

DRYING TIMES

Depending on such factors as film thickness, ambient air temperatures, humidity levels and air circulation.

The general dry times at 6-12 sq metres per litre are:
Touch Dry: 20 minutes
Re-Coat Time: 2 hours
Curing Time: 7 days

MAINTENANCE

Recoating should take place before deterioration of the coating allows weathering of the timber substrate to take place. A patchy, thin, faded and uneven appearance or eroded coating on edges indicates the need for recoating.
A wash down on an annual basis with a slow-release moss and mould wash will help with the long-term appearance of your coating.

CLEAN UP

All equipment can be cleaned up in water.

SAFETY

TKote-Rustic-Coatings-72.jpg Wear impervious gloves and wash paint deposits off skin with soap and water.

Moderately irritating to eyes- wear splash proof goggles to protect eyes. Flush eyes immediately with plenty of water if coating splashes to the eyes occur. If discomfort persists, seek medical attention.

Keep out of children’s reach. Ingestion: Give 1-3 cups of water and seek medical attention.

DISPOSAL

Let residual coating dry by leaving the lid off the container. Dispose with refuse if permitted by local council. Paint containers are reusable for non-food purposes and recyclable in areas where recycling and collection facilities are available.
