Recommended Uses Surface Preparation Application Coverage Drying Times Maintenance Clean Up Safety Disposal Durability Statement RECOMMENDED USESTimbakote Timber Prep is an ideal first coat for exterior timber cladding, pergolas, gazebos, fences, fascias, timber joinery, garage doors, outdoor furniture & CHH Shadowclad Ply sheets.SURFACE PREPARATIONNew Timber should be clean and dry, free of any loose fibres, stains, and any stencils or other marks should be removed. Sharp edges must be sanded, nail holes and minor defects to be filled with suitable timber filler tinted to the same colour as the timber substrate. All hidden faces, edges, rebates and end grains must be sealed with at least 2 coats of Timbakote Timber Prep prior to installation. The use of flat sawn timber (crown/arrowhead grain pattern) in high sunshine areas will significantly reduce the lifespan of your coating. Exposed Timber (greater then one week); Treat the surface to remove all contamination such as moss or mould or loose timber fibres. Coat as per new timber. Previously oiled or stained timber: remove all poorly adhered coatings, sand the surface and treat with a Sugar Soap solution. All oil residues must be removed, rinse the prepared surface thoroughly with water prior to the application of Timbakote Timber Prep. All sharp edges of timber must be sanded to create a rounded edge for better adhesion. All nail holes and minor defects should be filled with suitable timber filler tinted to the same colour as the timber substrate. APPLICATIONTimbakote Timber Pro Coating System (5-year durability)Apply 1 coat of Timbakote Timber Prep and 2 coats of Timbakote Timber Pro. Apply an additional topcoat on highly exposed areas and Dressed Timber New weatherboards should be coated on all 4 faces prior to installation Stir well before and during use with a flat stirrer. Apply 1 generous coat with a good quality paintbrush, applicator pad, roller or spray. If spraying lay off with an applicator pad, brush or roller to provide an even appearance. Do not over spread. Achieving the correct paint film thickness is important to the durability of a semi- transparent coating. Apply Timbakote Timber Prep to one board at a time; lay off in long even strokes along the board’s length working to natural breaks in the cladding. Always keep a wet edge to avoid lap marking. If using more then one container of Timbakote Timber Prep make sure all containers are mixed together prior to application. Thinning is not generally recommended, as it can be detrimental to the coating performance. The addition of 50mils of water per litre maybe required in hot weather or when coating absorbent surfaces. PRECOATINGIf precoating weatherboards or Shadowclad ply sheets prior to installation do not allow the boards or sheets to be stacked together without plastic film between the layers.COVERAGETimber Band Sawn: 4 - 8 sqm per LitreTimber Dressed: 6 - 12 sqm per Litre DRYING TIMESDepending on such factors as film thickness, ambient air temperatures, humidity levels and air circulation.
